Friday Dec. 4th Shanko Rugs showcased two rugs at a private event hosted by The Rolls Royce Enthusiast Club at the Saatchi Gallery. It was the launching of the RREC yearbook “Strive for Perfection – A Celebration of Design & Luxury “. Such an honour and a privilidge to be part of such exclusive event. There was not much time for photos but managed to make time for the photo below when setting up the exhibition.
It was a great success and a wonderful long week-end with hubby being pampered in a 5 star hotel in centre of London
Shanko Rugs feature in “Strive for Perfection – A Celebration of Design & Luxury” 2016
A photo of the rugs “Lambatungujokull glacier” and “Holuhraun Day 19” being set up for the event at the Saatchi Gallery.
This rug is 2 cm thick and then cut down to make a 3D effect in lava. Here it is photographed at the Glacier Lagoon Jokulasarlon at Vatnajokul National Park. This formation of lava called rope or pahoehoe lava can be seen in many places in Iceland.
Hand sculping the rug with scissors is very time consuming using different size of scissors to get the required 3D effect. The colours used are slate grey, black, dark red, red, orange and yellow
The new rug Fin by Finn photosession at Reynisfjara in s-Iceland. we where there quite early to beat the tourists. We nearly did that however the 10 people enjoying the black lava beach were not in our way so everything went by the book.
Fin by Finn is worked in Icleandic wool and the size is ca. 2,3 meters long and ca. 0.70 meters wide.
On the frame today is lava. Today is the last long week-end of summer and most of the city people are out in the country so it is peace and quite all around. Great time to work on the new rug that is on the frame today.
” A wing of a fallen angel” This is beginning of a new rug with working title or is it a form of something else.. only time will tell. In the mean time it is my pure enjoyment to see it to come to life on the frame. The colours will be in the shade from blackish grey to greyish white and as always I am working with the rare Icelandic wool. But is this a fallen angel ?
The shading of the wing of the fallen angel is comming togehter and I am nearly there…
We at Shanko Rugs are over the moon to be part of Florence Design Week 2015. The rugs will be displayed at the beautiful Grand Hotel Minerva, Florence. Who does not whant to be in Italy in late May early June I ask you and what a treat. Florence is always one of the great cities of the world to visit.
Looking forward to see you at the Florence Design Week.
It was wonderful surprise to be contacted by the representatives from Florence Design Week in January last. Such an honour to be invited to take part in this prestigious event in on of the most beautiful city.
The work that will be exhibited in Florence must be at the edge of design. And that is how the lava fall was born a rug inspired by molting lava falling from a hight of 12 meters. This piece is only two meters high falling from a wall to be spread onto the floor forward ca. 90 cm.I thought this piece needed some support and decided to make a twin work to go with it. What I chose to do is a glacier. Not surprising as most of our volcanos are under glaciers.
It is still a work in progress…
more later on the progress for Florence Design Week 2015.
