Making of the Rugs

The following photos show the general process in making my landscape rugs. These shown here are the glaciers.  The frame has base material streached to it andcan be 5.75m long and the hight is 3,70m.  So at the moment the max size of a rug is 5,50m by 3,5m.

The method used is hand tufting.  The material is the superb and unique Icelandic sustainable wool.  The base material is man made and the carpet clue is natural latex.  The latex must be cept at a higher temp +5°C making it very tricky to transport to Iceland over the cold Atlantic ocean.

While they are still on the frame the backing is covered in natural latex and secondary backing material applied.  When that is dry the rugs are cut down from the frame they are sheared and finished of by hand.
